The Wielenga Innovation Foundation has been pleased to provide grants for education, simulation modeling and for new technologies.
In 2021 we provided a grant of $60,000 to the Mechanical Engineering Department of the University of Michigan for the development of modeling and simulation tools.
We were proud to support the analysis of a new type of nuclear reactor that promises to provide clean energy while burning the waste of existing light water nuclear reactors. This is through a grant of $50,000 in 2022 and $20,000 in 2023 to the Nuclear Engineering Department at the University of Michigan. The name of this new type of reactor is the Wielenga Innovation Still Salt Reactor (WISSR). A paper giving the preliminary design of the reactor was given at the International Congress on Advances in Nuclear Power Plants (ICAPP2023). You can review its ongoing design in the Nuclear Reactor section.
